Wild dogs, wild ant sauce, wild Mezcal, and saxophone solos in the wild.
The Story
On the drive into St Augustin we saw something small and brown cross the road in front of our car. Darni our driver screeched to a stop, jumped out and returned triumphantly with a tiny puppy. He joined us as we visited the father and son duo of Sergio and Luis that made amazing mezcal out the back of their house. We tried everything they had, packed 60 litres into the back of our van, and were treated to the most amazing meal of ant sauce, fire roasted chorizos and homemade tortillas. The dog got last nights molé.
As we left the neighbours started their saxophone lessons and provided the soundtrack to what was looking back one of the most special days from our last trip.
P.S. the puppy whose name became Molé got a few days at the dog spa and now lives with our friend Darni, and his other pups.
This mezcal is a beaut, lots of green spice, peppercorns and coriander with some burning eucalypt in there as well.
